There is nothing better than spending a day at the beach, obviously at Sand In Your Eye we agree whole heartedly with this! We love playing in the sand, getting our toes wet, making our sand art and seeing all the beautiful nature living on the UK’s coast.

It’s so upsetting when that experience is spoilt by litter and rubbish. North Lincolnshire Coastal BID team and Anglian Water asked Jamie Wardley, Claire Jamieson and Hannah Honeywill to come along to the beach at Mablethorpe for World Oceans Day to run sand sculpting workshops for families and make some sand sculptures raising awareness about how much plastic ends up on the beach and makes its way into the ocean.

Over three days we ran workshops to engage children about littering on beaches and how that can affect the big mammals and fish that live in the sea. On the first day the workshops were attended by some of the local schools. Jamie made a beach scene of two dolphins and a seal on the second day – much to our delight, it was still there the following day.

So Jamie added to it by making a boat ‘The Mable’, so families could sit in it and have their photo taken. There were some really funny photos!

In the afternoon on the final day there was a sand sculpture competition, the talented winner was presented with the golden shovel. It has been perfect beach weather this summer and this weekend was no exception.

North Lincs Coastal BID team were amazing and really worked hard to deliver the event. It was great to see them and Anglian Water again after our sand sculpture event in Skegness a few years ago. Special thanks to Lee and Harriet for getting stuck in!
