On the May bank holiday, we were invited to run a fantastic sand sculpture workshop and competition in Skegness with the local council and Anglian Water to spread the message to keep drains clear to avoid flooding and polluting rivers and beaches. Colette from Anglian Water loved how it went and asked us to run some workshops in Southend on Sea to continue telling people about their ‘Keep it Clear’ campaign as well as showing the children and their parents some top sand sculpting techniques.

We arrived to glorious weather and also a new one for us, a beach with no sand! Fortunately, a large tipper truck arrived just in time for the first workshop with all the sand we would need.

A great turnout for the workshop

For the first 2 workshops we had some great kids from the Turning Tide project along with people enjoying the sunshine on the beach and made some great sculptures from toilets to turtles! All the workshops were full of budding sculptors and after a hot and busy day, myself and Jamie enjoyed a very large, but well-earned Italian dinner!

The second day was as sunny as the first and the guys from Anglian Water chatted about how to best keep our drains clear and we continued to help build some great sand sculptures!

A big thanks to everyone who came along and joined in plus thanks to Gary, Colette and the rest of the team for putting on a lovely event.
