Dynamo sand sculpture
As a proud Bradfordian, Jamie Wardley is always over the moon to be able to create sculptures in his home city, whether it be ice, pumpkins or sand. So when we were approached by Broadway shopping centre to create some sand sculptures to celebrate the city, he couldn’t help but be excited. We would create 3 sand sculptures in total. Two of Bradford Celebrities, the magician Dynamo and ex One Direction member Zayn Malik. We would make a Bradford landscape too.
Indoor sand sculptures have their obvious plus points, such as we don’t have to worry about the unpredictable British weather, but they have their challenges too. How to get tonnes of sand into a building is a pretty big one! Outdoors sand is simply tipped off the back of a truck, but this isn’t possible indoors and certainly not advisable on non solid floors! As we have made a few indoor sand sculptures now, we have fine tuned this process to be quite a smooth operation.
Once the compaction day was over Jamie began work on the two figures, while Tom began blocking out the Bradford landscape. The next day Tom went off on his travels to another event and I joined Jamie for the rest of the project. I was really nice to work in Bradford again, as we always bump into friends throughout the days, who have come along to see what we are up to. Bradford is full of very friendly people and conversation flowed as people began to guess who Jamie was making.

On the last day some of the local press came down to see us on the final day finishing the sculptures and after a long day we were finally finished! The sculptures should remain in The Broadway for the summer, so please pop down and have a look.
